Abruzzo is a region on the east (Adriatic) coast of central Italy and this region is home to one DOCG – Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Not surprising, the main grape variety in this is Montepulciano but up to 15% Sangiovese is allowed to be added.

It is not surprising that Abruzzo provides a perfect haven for grape growing – vines flourish thanks to the terroir, the abundance of sunshine, the generous rainfall and a variable climate: warm and dry on the coast and more continental inland.

All of the red wines will match traditional Italian dishes but pairing them with lamb dishes is a marriage made in heaven.
