Calabria is a wine region of southern Italy, effectively a large peninsula jutting out between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. It is believed that the ancient Greeks cultivated the first wine-bearing vines here. Over 90% of this beautiful mountainous region’s production is red wine, with a large portion made from the Gaglioppo grape. Some of the best-known wines are Ciro’, Greco di bianco and Bivongi.

One of our most popular wines from this area is Maradea Reserva made from the Gaglioppo grape variety to make a powerful and intense wine – perfect for robust beef and venison.

Another of our favourites is the Ciro Rosso. As the name implies it is a bright ruby red with a scent that has been described as delicate, intense, ethereal and pleasant. The flavour is warm, full, pleasantly vinous, balanced, tasty and persistent. You will find that it goes well with any dish; ideal with red meat, game and medium matured cheeses.
